Asking for time
I'm new to this and I want to get it right rather than fast. I'm going to ask a qualified local imam first, and a counselor or a lawyer if I need one, before I decide anything.
Practical guide
Relationships get complicated after the Shahada, especially where family, a dating history, marriage pressure, or a partner's expectations are in the mix. The first step here is simple: do not make a rushed decision about your life on your own.
You can learn to pray, find your feet in a community, and sort out halal basics without settling your entire marriage future this month. If someone is pushing you to marry, divorce, move, change your finances, or cut off your family quickly, stop and get qualified help.
Write the actual situation down in plain words. Say whether you live together, whether children are involved, whether there is pressure or fear in it, and whether legal documents, immigration status, debts, or your housing are affected.
A clear question lets an imam or teacher answer responsibly. Tell them you are a new Muslim and that you want a practical next step, not a full legal manual.
Religious language does not make a relationship healthy. Watch for pressure, being cut off from other people, threats, someone checking your phone, someone controlling the money, a rush to marry, or being told you may not ask anyone else for advice.
This page is general education. It cannot tell you whether a marriage is valid, whether a divorce took effect, whether a custody arrangement is safe, or what your legal rights are. For anything personal, use qualified local help.
I'm new to this and I want to get it right rather than fast. I'm going to ask a qualified local imam first, and a counselor or a lawyer if I need one, before I decide anything.
I'm a new Muslim and I need advice about a relationship. There may be marriage, family pressure, and safety involved. Could I book a private time so I can explain it properly?
I want to handle this in a halal and respectful way, but I'm not okay with being pressured. I need time, and I need proper advice.
Stop there. Marriage is worship and it is also a legal decision about the rest of your life. Ask a qualified local imam and someone you trust before you agree to anything.
Good advice never cuts you off from qualified help. Speak privately with a trusted imam, a counselor, or a safety professional.
Do not settle this with general content off a website. Ask a qualified local scholar who can go through your actual situation with you.
This guide is general education. If the question touches safety, marriage, family pressure, your rights at work or school, mental health, money, or a personal religious ruling, speak with a qualified local imam, scholar, clinician, legal professional, or safety service.
These sources back the general framing of this guide. They do not replace personal advice from someone qualified and local to you.
