Overview
Things are starting to settle. Now you add the Quran, work out what to say to family, and find a healthier way to handle the questions that come up without drowning in them.

Start a small Quran habit, get ready for the conversations with family and friends, and learn how to ask a question well.

You read or listen to some Quran regularly, you have a line or two ready for the people closest to you, and doubts do not knock you over the way they did.

A beginners' Quran reading class at a masjid
Ask your local masjid whether it runs a class for learning to read Arabic. Most start with the letters, then the vowel marks, then joining letters, then short surahs. Alongside it, pick one translation, such as The Clear Quran or Abdel Haleem's, and read a little each day.

New Muslim Academy live Quran classes
Free small-group classes online in the evening, Eastern time, with brothers and sisters taught separately. They cover Al-Fatihah and short surahs. You fill in a sign-up form first.
Go gently
- Free before paid. You do not need a paid online tutor to start.
- Be careful with one-to-one tutoring from academies you cannot check.
Steps in this stage
- Reading Arabic fluently is a long way off for almost everyone.
- You will not understand every verse. Neither does anyone else on a first read.
- Faith going up and down does not mean it is failing.
- You do not have to win any arguments.
