About Revert Guide

Our mission

Revert Guide helps people through their first year as a Muslim. That first year holds a lot of questions, and most of them are ordinary ones nobody wants to feel embarrassed asking. So the answers live here in one place, they work offline, and they cost nothing.

Why the name Revert Guide

Muslims use two words for someone who becomes Muslim: revert and convert. "Revert" comes from the teaching that every child is born on the fitrah, a natural inclination to recognise God (Sahih al-Bukhari 1385, and Quran 30:30), so coming to Islam is seen as a return to it. Some Muslims who came to Islam as adults prefer "convert", because it names the choice they made. We took the first word for the name, and we use both on the site. Call yourself whichever feels right to you.

Our approach

• Educational and beginner-focused - We explain concepts from scratch, assuming no prior knowledge of Islam.
• Mainstream Sunni perspective - The content and the masjid directory follow mainstream Sunni scholarship, without sectarian argument. Where the four Sunni schools of law differ, we say so and do not pick one for you.
• Non-political and inclusive - We stick to faith and practice, and welcome Muslims from every cultural background.
• Essentials over advanced topics - We cover the fundamentals new Muslims need most, and leave advanced jurisprudence to scholars.
• Ad-free and non-commercial - No ads, no trackers, no monetization. This is a service, not a business.
• Complementary to local guidance - Find a local mosque and a mentor. This guide adds to those relationships, it does not stand in for them.

How content is checked

Every page moves through four stages.

1. 1Draft. The page is written, but nobody has checked its sources yet.
2. 2Source-checked. Someone on the team has opened every source the page cites and confirmed it says what the page says.
3. 3Review needed. The sources are checked, but the page touches rulings, health, safety, law or family matters, so it is waiting for a qualified reviewer.
4. 4Approved. A qualified reviewer has read the page and signed it off.

Who does the scholarly review

Religious content is reviewed by a qualified reviewer approved by the team. We will publish the reviewer roster once it is confirmed.
