Ramadan prep

Rajab and Sha'ban preparation note

Rajab and Sha'ban come just before Ramadan, and they bring a flood of online reminders with them. This page helps you prepare without treating weakly sourced claims as established worship.

All seasonal guides

Start here

Rajab is one of the sacred months. Be careful with the special claims made about it that carry no source.

For Sha'ban there are authentic reports of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, fasting more often.

Preparing can be simple: fix your sleep, learn the basics of fasting, ask your awkward questions early, and build up worship gradually.

Before you take on a special night, prayer, or promise you only saw online, ask a qualified teacher.

What to focus on now

  • Go over the Ramadan basics before the month starts.
  • Ask early about medication, illness, travel, menstruation, missed fasts, and fidyah.
  • Practice one small habit: an earlier bedtime, listening to Quran, a small charity, or a short dua.
  • Keep the Rajab and Sha'ban claims source-checked, and keep your head.

What can wait

  • Verifying every viral calendar post yourself.
  • Special prayers or fasts with no reliable source.
  • Filling your schedule up before Ramadan even begins.
  • Judging other Muslims while you are still learning.

Rajab, without overclaiming

Rajab is named among the sacred months in hadith. For a beginner that is reason enough to treat it seriously and do good in it. Do not present a particular Rajab prayer, fast, or promise as established unless a qualified teacher gives you a reliable source for it.

Sha'ban, and gentle preparation

Authentic hadith mention the Prophet fasting often in Sha'ban. If you are able and already used to fasting, ask a teacher how voluntary fasts might fit your health and your schedule. If you are not there yet, prepare in other ways.

Practical preparation

  • Find out how your masjid announces Ramadan.
  • Go over the basics of suhoor, iftar, Taraweeh, and Eid.
  • Ask the awkward fasting questions before Ramadan starts.
  • Set a Quran, dhikr, or charity goal you can actually hit.

Where to draw the source line

If a post promises a specific reward for a specific Rajab or Sha'ban act and gives no reliable source, do not pass it on as Islamic guidance. You can still do the good deed without the claim attached to it.

Useful scripts

Asking before Ramadan

Assalamu alaykum. Ramadan is coming and I'm new to this. Could I ask now about fasting, medication, travel, menstruation, missed fasts, or anything personal that might affect me?

Checking a claim

I saw a special Rajab or Sha'ban practice online. Is it from a reliable source, or should I treat it as general personal worship only?

A small goal

Before Ramadan I'm picking one habit I can keep: sleeping earlier, drinking more water at suhoor, reading a short portion of Quran, or giving a small charity.

Ask someone qualified if

Your question involves illness, medication, pregnancy, menstruation, hardship, travel, visas, qurbani, missed fasts, fidyah, zakat calculations, debt, business assets, or family pressure. This guide is general education, not a ruling for your situation.
