First welcome
Welcome, I'm really glad you're here. What would help you most this week: prayer basics, a class, a visit to the masjid, something with your family, or just someone to answer beginner questions?
Practical guide
A mentor does not have to answer everything. The best early support is steady, private, and practical, and it hands the sensitive questions to people who are qualified for them.
Welcome them, ask what they need today, and keep the conversation calm. What they need might be help with prayer, a tour of the masjid, a class they can trust, support with family, or just one safe person to ask basic questions.
In a first meeting, skip the sect debates, the online controversy of the week, marriage pressure, politics, comments about their culture, and long lists of optional practices.
Be reliable without becoming controlling. Do not demand constant updates, keep tabs on their private life, or set yourself up as their only source of guidance.
A public Shahada, an announcement in the group chat, a photo, or a testimonial can be a lovely moment for the community and a dangerous one for the person. Ask first, every time, and take a no without making them feel guilty for it.

I can help you with the basics and with finding your way around here, but this one needs a qualified imam, a counselor, or another professional. I can help you find the right person.
You don't need to learn all of this today. Let's pick one next step and leave the rest for later.
Do not improvise. Help them get private time with a qualified local imam, and with a counselor or lawyer if the situation calls for it.
Safety comes first. Help them reach emergency services, a crisis line, a shelter, or a professional rather than treating it as a normal religious question.
Ask the new Muslim privately whether they want that. If they say no, or hesitate at all, keep it private.
This guide is general education. If the question touches safety, marriage, family pressure, your rights at work or school, mental health, money, or a personal religious ruling, speak with a qualified local imam, scholar, clinician, legal professional, or safety service.
These sources back the general framing of this guide. They do not replace personal advice from someone qualified and local to you.
