Charity beyond money
Sadaqah can be money, and it can also be service and ordinary decency. The aim for a beginner is not to give past your capacity. Start with something sincere that you can keep doing.
Simple ways to serve
- Bring food to a community iftar or a class when that fits.
- Volunteer for setup, cleanup, rides, or greeting people at the door.
- Check on a convert or an elder who is on their own, with their permission and without making a show of it.
- Share something reliable instead of a quote graphic with no source.
- Make dua for someone privately, then follow it with practical help if you can.
Choosing where to give
- Look for a clear organization name, a clear purpose, and a donation policy.
- Prefer official charity pages or masjid campaigns you can check locally.
- If the donation is zakat, ask how they handle zakat funds specifically.
- Walk away from pressure, shame, vague emergency claims, and anonymous payment links.
When money is tight
Not being able to give money does not make you less sincere. Offer time, a kind word, practical help, or one small thing you do consistently. If you are the one struggling, ask your masjid or a trusted support service what is available.
