Asking where a rule comes from
Thanks for explaining. Is that a religious requirement, a recommendation, or a local custom? And who could I ask for a proper answer?
Practical guide
A good Muslim community makes the basics easier to carry. This page lists what decent support looks like, and the warning signs that mean you should step back or get qualified help.
Be careful with anyone who tells you to listen only to them, pushes you to cut everybody off right away, rushes you into marriage or money decisions, asks you to keep a harmful secret, or shames you for wanting qualified help.
You should be able to ask where to pray, how to make wudu, what a word means, or who could teach you. In a beginner-friendly space, none of those questions turn into an embarrassment.
A responsible mentor does not pretend to have every answer. Marriage, divorce, abuse, trauma, detailed fiqh, legal problems, clinical distress, and money decisions all belong with qualified people.
Leave if you can do that safely. Then contact someone you trust, another masjid, a community leader, or a professional support service. Staying in an unhealthy setting proves nothing about your sincerity.

I need to slow down and ask someone qualified before I decide that. I'm not comfortable being pushed.
I don't think this is the right fit for me right now. Do you know another class or masjid that's calm with new Muslims?
Ask them to stop, and to take it down if it is posted somewhere. Your privacy still counts even when people are excited for you.
Ask for the beginner order: what matters this week, what can wait, and who can teach you steadily.
Treat that as a warning sign. Sound learning can survive a second qualified opinion.
This guide is general education. If the question touches safety, marriage, family pressure, your rights at work or school, mental health, money, or a personal religious ruling, speak with a qualified local imam, scholar, clinician, legal professional, or safety service.
These sources back the general framing of this guide. They do not replace personal advice from someone qualified and local to you.
